“The Two Faces of Artificial Intelligence” is the title of the WordPress Day that started the season of events of the WordPress Valencia Community this January 16, 2025, and that I had the pleasure of organizing and curating. Many attendees went to Wayco Ruzafa: many young faces were approaching the WordPress Community for the first time. The goal behind this title was to contrast two sides of a technology with an enthusiastic welcome by all, but that lacks a critical look at its possible risks, a look that for the moment does not worry many of its users. Two guests illustrated both sides: Fernando Tellado, founder of Ayuda WordPress, and Eric Seguí SEO Manager of QueSEO.

Artificial Intelligence was born as a scientific discipline in 1956 in the United States, 69 years ago. During this time, it has been approached in literature and cinema as a Science Fiction topic. These scripts talked about virtual reality, memory implants, advanced virtual assistants, robots, video calls, etc. Let us remember some of those movies, for example, 1968’s “A Space Odyssey”, 1990’s “The Avengers from the Future” (Total Recall), and 2013’s “Her”.

Today these concepts are no longer science fiction. Artificial Intelligence has been democratized and we can all use it. It is a tangible reality present in practically all aspects of our lives, from the moment we unlock our phones to the most critical decisions in medicine, finance, or even creativity.
After introducing the event and the Community, the first talk started with Eric Seguí. SEO Manager with more than 10 years of experience, specializing in 360 strategies of the digital ecosystem and solutions based on artificial intelligence. In his talk “FantasIA: automate with AI” title with rhyme, he talked about the positive side of AI. He showed us how to be more efficient by automating key tasks such as content creation, social media posts, newsletters, and videos. He also included integrations of tools such as Make, Chat GPT, Gemini, and Perplexity, combining them with technologies such as Gmail, Google Spreadsheets, WordPress, or Elementor.
He told us how he has refined these processes from practice and evolving technology. At this point of IA evolution, the most important is the possibility of using it, to go further and faster by devising how to mix the available tools to achieve our goals. Companies and professionals need to incorporate it into their daily work to remain competitive. The attendees were very enthusiastic about the innovations shown by Eric and with the speed to perform the proposed tasks, at the end of the talk they asked several questions to the speaker.
Then we entered the second part: the other side of AI, the challenge. For many, the most worrying thing is the loss of jobs. The technology sector tops the list in terms of layoffs. Google, Ikea, and Salesforce have replaced their staff in areas such as customer service, call centers or sales processes. It is also important to consider sustainability because it requires large amounts of water to operate and their high electricity demand could lead to power outages in the future.

Many questions also arise: Will we stop learning, because AI will do everything for us? To what extent will we depend on AI? Will we put our trust in the results of AI and do what it tells us or dictates to us without thinking, without analyzing whether it is right or wrong? What are the consequences for the individual’s autonomy, especially for his freedom and security? Will the machine supplant the human being?
The second speaker was Fernando Tellado, founder of “Ayuda WordPress”, one of the most popular sites in Spanish for learning WordPress. In his blog, he offers guides, tutorials, news, updates, plugin recommendations, and useful themes for beginners and advanced users. In my opinion, one of the blog attractions is its clear, direct language, the promotion of discussion, and responses to its users. In addition, he offers information about the WordPress Community of which he has been an active member for many years. He collaborates with the WordPress Spain website, organizes WordCamps and MeetUps, and is part of the organizing team of the WordCamp Madrid 2025. He also participates regularly as a Media Partner of WordCamp Europe. At least 51 of his talks are available on WordPress TV. He is an expert teacher in WordPress, digital branding, content SEO, web optimization, and a professional writer.
His talk was entitled “Re-Humanizing the Web”. A pivotal question structured his thinking: Does no one think about children? He begins by going back to the origins of man, to Lucy, the first human ancestor and the first instrument developed by humans: the chopper. And this is precisely what AI is too, an instrument to increase man’s capabilities. He places this technology alongside the calculator, the cell phone, the computer, and the chopper itself, in other words, in the category of tools. AI can perform many tasks and respond as if it were a human, but it is not. The AI has no empathy, no intelligence, and the algorithm is biased, depending on who has programmed it, it makes up answers and if you push it, it gives you the reason. Despite its name, it is not intelligent, nor artificial, it is a “machine learning” and gets results from what it has learned. An adult exposed to AI can reorient his life, but is a child prepared for this? He closes the talk by expressing the need to educate the new generations, the children who will grow up with AI, letting them know that they are dealing with a machine and to put it to good use to “properly train the minds of the generation that will create the next generation of Artificial Intelligence.”

A lengthy discussion followed, beginning with questions previously collected from the attendees. The more the speakers debated, the more the attendees became animated and began to share their experiences. For example, one girl told us how she had found her friend on the phone unusually understanding until she discovered she was talking to ChatGPT. We also reflected on how AI content creation was worsening search results and websites generated entirely with AI.
The event concluded with our traditional networking or beerworking space, where we enjoyed a few beers and a snack in a relaxed atmosphere full of exchange of ideas. It was the perfect moment to connect with the 80 participants that night. Not even the rain, unusual in Valencia, managed to stop the next stop at a nearby bar. We shared a delicious dinner in a nearby restaurant to close the night.

Many thanks to Wayco Ruzafa for giving their space for this talk and to SiteGround Spain for sponsoring the beers and snacks making the final networking experience even more special. Thanks also to SiteGround for the socks, they are very warm and ran out quickly, (truth be told, I couldn’t reach them). Thanks to all of you for joining us that night, and to Fernando Tellado and Juan Manuel Rodríguez for visiting us from Madrid. See you next time!
